Boy Scout Troop 643, of the Pacific Harbors Council, is chartered by the McKenna Elementary PTA located in McKenna, Washington. A relatively new troop, Troop 643 began on May 6, 2006 at Scout Fest on Fort Lewis . There are presently 25 registered Scouts in Troop 643. We meet at our own scout camp, we call Camp Judge, on most Monday evenings from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.
Troop 643 has a year round program of outings and instruction. Just about every month there is an overnight campout planned, and we also have outings like canoeing, fishing, bicycling, hiking, and many other activities. The Troop's outdoor program helps to keep scouts active and interested in scouting, plus it provides the scouts with opportunities for lots of fun, learning new skills and rank advancement.
The troop is divided into 4-5 patrols of 5-7 scouts. The Troop is led by the Senior Patrol Leader. The senior patrol, which is made up of the experienced and older Scouts of the troop, organize a High Adventure program for their patrol. All patrols are led by a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. Together they plan and execute the troop's program.
At troop meetings, we practice scout skills, have inter-patrol activities and games, work on rank advancement, and plan for the current month's campout and other activities. Once a month the Scoutmaster and the boy leaders have a meeting of the Patrol Leader's Council to plan for the upcoming month's activities. Troop 643 strives to be a scout-run troop, supported by several adult scouters' and parent participation.
